Chelsea 4-1 AC Milan: Confident Blues cruise to impressive victory
Club World Cup champions Chelsea beat AC Milan 4-1 at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, as Enzo Maresca's side closed out their mini-preseason in style. In their second of two friendlies ahead of the Premier League season and just a month since they won the Club World Cup trophy, Chelsea scored twice early thanks to an own goal from Milan's Andrei Coubis and the brilliant Joao Pedro made it five goals in five games as a Chelsea player. Coubis was then sent off inside the first 20 minutes for hauling down Joao Pedro who was clean through, but 10-player Milan hung in there well as Fofana pulled one back in-between a brace from second half sub Liam Delap. Next up for Chelsea: a home game against Crystal Palace next Sunday (9am ET) to kick off the Premier League campaign. Expectation levels are rising as Maresca's side look sharp and full of confidence after their very successful summer. Cole Palmer, Joao Pedro, Pedro Neto, Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo all looked superb, while youngster Estevao dazzled off the bench as the hype continues to build after he starred in Chelsea's previous friendly win against Bayer Leverkusen. Delap drills home the penalty kick. 3-0. Jamie Gittens smashes over Chelsea looking to wrap things up with some counters now and Jamie Gittens curls a powerful effort just over the bar. Gittens has been okay today, but has he done enough to start on the left in the Premier League opener next weekend? Delap, Malo Gusto, Estevao and Andrey Santos are on Joao Pedro is replaced by Liam Delap and the former gets a lovely ovation for his efforts. He's been brilliant. Chelsea being very careful with Chalobah in the same week that it was announced fellow center back Levi Colwill will miss most of the season due to an ACL injury. Leao should make it 2-1 Milan work their way into the box and Fofana is clean through on goal. But he gets it all wrong and Sanchez can save. Leao is buzzing around everywhere. Second half is underway and Chelsea have yet to make a sub, while Modric is on Enzo Maresca is giving what is pretty much his full-strength side more minutes together in their final preseason friendly. No subs at half time for the Blues. New AC Milan midfielder, the legendary Luka Modric, is on for his first appearance. Neto, Cucurealla go close Maignan denies Pedro Neto superbly at the back post, while the rebound drops to Cucurella but his effort is blocked. Milan digging in. Leao scores but he's offside A cross from the right is whipped in and Rafael Leao scores a superb diving header. But he is one of three Milan players who were offside when the cross came in. Joao Pedro spins Coubis and he's in on goal but the young defender hauls Joao Pedro down. He's shown a straight red card and Milan are down to 10 players. What a shocker of a first 18 minutes of this game for Coubis. From the resulting free kick Cole Palmer smashes the post. Chelsea are flying! Joao Pedro heads home to double Chelsea's lead! Pedro Neto cuts in from the right and delivers a perfect cross which Joao Pedro heads home. The Brazilian continues his fine start to life at Chelsea and the hosts are 2-0 up inside the first 10 minutes. Reece James' free kick hits Coubis and goes in! Enzo Maresca explains why Trevoh Chalobah came off as defender reacts on his socials
Defender Trevoh Chalobah has reacted on his social media last night after coming off injured in Chelsea's win against AC Milan. The Blues breezed past AC Milan winning the game 4-1 on the night in what was another very impressive performance from Enzo Maresca's side. Liam Delap had a great game and he topped it off by scoring the fourth goal for Chelsea to make sure of the comfortable win and result. EXCLUSIVE! Chelsea offered chance to sign Premier League centre back and it's not Marc Guehi! It wasn't all good news though and Chelsea fans had major concerns when yet another defender appeared to come off injured during the game. Chalobah was bought off injured and suddenly Chelsea fans thought they might be losing him as well as Levi Colwill who is now likely to be out for a large part of the season with an ACL injury. But thankfully, it does not sound like anything to be concerned about for Chalobah based on reactions from Maresca and the player himself. He simply posted on X last night: 'All good everyone, thanks for the messages 🙏💙' That will be a relief to hear for everyone at the club because they are surely going to need Chalobah if they do not dip into the market to sign a new centre back in the remaining weeks of the summer transfer window. Maresca reacts So if he is all good, why did he come off? Well, he was 'too hot' apparently! Maresca said: '[Wesley] Fofana could be available for Crystal Palace yes, and we are very happy because he is a very important player. Trev [Chalobah] is fine; he decided to come off because it was too hot (laughs).' It was a pretty hot day yesterday to be honest!

Chelsea 4-1 AC Milan: Liam Delap brace fires Blues to pre-season victory over ten-man Rossoneri
Chelsea completed a perfect pre-season campaign at Stamford Bridge with a 4-1 win over ten-man AC Milan. Barely 48 hours after dispatching Bayer Leverkusen 2-0, the Blues were back in action against Italian opposition, with goals from Liam Delap and Joao Pedro confirming a second win in as many outings. Much has been made of Chelsea's rushed preparations for the new Premier League season, which kicks off next week, but they showed again today that the squad's considerable depth may be sufficient to minimise the effects of a gruelling Club World Cup campaign. There were fresh injury worries for the hosts, though, as Trevoh Chalobah hobbled off with an ankle injury in the second half. With Levi Colwill set to be absent for months with an ACL injury, Enzo Maresca will be sweating on the defender's fitness. A chaotic first half ended with Chelsea firmly in control, sporting a one-man advantage and a two-goal lead. Their dominance was due in no small part to the contributions of Andrei Coubis, a Milan academy graduate who endured an unenviable senior debut. With five minutes played, he turned Reece James' cross into his own net, and was perhaps unlucky to do so after Trevoh Chalobah missed his attempted header. Chelsea doubled their advantage just three minutes later, as Joao Pedro added another goal to his Chelsea catalogue, heading home from Pedro Neto's lofted pass. Coubis' afternoon then went from bad to worse. He scrambled to recover as Pedro broke the line and bore down on goal, coming up with a desperate tackle better suited to a rugby pitch and was promptly dismissed, sent for an early shower just 18 minutes into his first-team bow. Cole Palmer went close with a pair of well-hit free-kicks and a close-range scissor-kick, and was unlucky not to add to the Blues' advantage before the break. So too was Rafael Leao, Milan's only credible threat in the first period, who forced a pair of shots saved by Robert Sanchez before seeing a goal ruled out for offside. Milan were improved somewhat in the second half by the introduction of Luka Modric, who added much-needed rhythm and composure to the side. After a spell of pressure from the visitors, though, Estevao's introduction off the bench had Chelsea back in the driver's seat. Mere minutes after his introduction, he was hauled down in the penalty area, earning a spot-kick which Delap fired under Mike Maignan to extend the hosts' lead. The advantage was pegged back to two moments later as Alexis Saelemaekers danced off the left flank and played Youssouf Fofana in behind. The Frenchman made no mistake, though his goal was a mere consolation. Delap added a fourth with seconds remaining, smashing home first-time from Andrey Santos' flicked pass to complete the Blues' pre-season preparations. Their attention will now turn to the 2025-26 Premier League campaign, which kicks off as Crystal Palace visit Stamford Bridge a week today.
